Pinellas County (, pih-NEL-əss) is a county located upon the west central coast of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 959,107, which makes it the seventh-most populous county in the state. It is after that the most densely populated county in Florida, with 3,491 residents per square mile. The county is share of the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Clearwater is the county seat. St. Petersburg is the largest city in the county, as capably as the largest city in Florida that is not a county seat.
When Europeans first reached the Pinellas peninsula, the Tampa Bay area was inhabited by people of the Safety Harbor culture. The Safety Harbor culture Place was at odds into chiefdoms. One documented chiefdom in what is now Pinellas County was that of the Tocobaga, who occupied a town and large temple mound, the Safety Harbor site, overlooking the recess in what is now Safety Harbor. The enlightened site is protected and can be visited as portion of the County’s Philippe Park.
