Minneapolis ( MIN-ee-AP-ษ™-lis), officially the City of Minneapolis, is a city in the come clean of Minnesota and the county seat of Hennepin County. As of the 2020 census the population was 429,954, making it the largest city in Minnesota and the 46th-most-populous in the United States. Nicknamed the “City of Lakes”, Minneapolis is abundant in water, with thirteen lakes, wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks, and waterfalls. Minneapolis has its origins as the 19th century lumber and flour milling capitals of the world, and, to the present day, preserved its financial clout. It occupies both banks of the Mississippi River and adjoins Saint Paul, the make a clean breast capital of Minnesota.

Before European settlement, the site of Minneapolis was inhabited by Dakota people. The agreement was founded along Saint Anthony Fallsโ€”the deserted natural waterfall on the entire length of the Mississippi Riverโ€”on a section of home north of Fort Snelling. Its deposit is credited to its proximity to the fort and the falls providing faculty for industrial activity. Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and the surrounding area are collectively known as the Twin Cities, a metropolitan area home to 3.69 million inhabitants.

Minneapolis has one of the most extensive public park systems in the U.S.; many of these parks are connected by the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway. Biking and walking trails control through many parts of the city including the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, Lake of the Isles, Bde Maka Ska, and Lake Harriet, and Minnehaha Falls. Minneapolis has cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. A metropolis located far from competing neighbors, Minneapolis is the birthplace of General Mills, the Pillsbury brand, and the Target Corporation. The city’s cultural offerings swell the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the First Avenue nightclub, and four professional sports teams.
